110%: Summer Sweat '24
May 25 - September 2
CHALLENGE GOALS
Outdoors Physical Fitness – identify and commit to one particular area of physical fitness development that is done outdoors. Think of Michael Easter's stories about human evolution and how our ancestors ran down prey.
Mental/Spiritual Fitness—Do something to boost your physical and/or spiritual Fitness (e.g., dedicated silent sitting, as discussed in The Comfort Crisis discussions) that is also done outdoors.
TSL Badge(s) – pick a TSL badge you feel is best done in the summer, but it must be outdoors-based (ex: Frogman.)
Surprise Project – Pick an outdoor project to be revealed in the recap ceremony. Do not announce it or share details until then.
For this challenge, you should spend a minimum of two hours and one minute or a day outdoors working on your goals. As with previous challenges, you should document your progress in a journal.

PRESENTATION
Create goals and document progress, but do not share them with the group
Create a synopsis of your challenge experience
Present your journey on PRESENTATION DAY (September 15 via Zoom)
This challenge is meant to get us comfortable with the uncomfortable summer heat. Remember what Micael Easter said:
"According to scientists at the University of Oregon, people who exercised in a 100-degree room for ten days, for example, increased their fitness performance markers significantly more than a group who did the exact same workout in an air-conditioned room. The hot exercise caused “inexplicable changes to the heart’s left ventricle.” This can improve the heart’s health and efficiency. Hot exercise also activates “heat shock proteins” and “BDNF.” The former are inflammation fighters linked to living longer, while the latter is a chemical that promotes the survival and growth of neurons. BDNF might be protective against depression and Alzheimer’s, according to the NIH."
And to make this one fun, we will vote on a Challenge winner this time, where a fabulous prize will be awarded!
